Man-of-the-Match Marcel Garvey was quick to sing the praises of the pack at Warriors after victory over Bucharest Wolves – and highlighted a commanding display from Ben Gulliver for leading the way.
Garvey grabbed two tries in the Amlin Challenge Cup fixture as Warriors scored nine in total.
However, he insisted the work up front had laid the platform to success as Worcester closed the gap to Stade Francais at the top of the pool to four points.
“It’s always nice to score – they were quite easy though,” laughed Garvey. “It opened up for me in the second half for a long range effort, but my legs started to go in the boggy pitch so I started looking for Milo.
“It’s good to get a run out and it was a professional show. We knew they wouldn’t stop playing and they would tackle themselves to a standstill.
“I have to mention the forwards because I thought they played really well. Ben Gulliver led the way and carried the ball well. He had such a good game.
“Gully was confrontational which was what we needed in a game like that against Bucharest.
“The main thing was getting the four tries and keeping the pressure on Stade,” added Garvey. “We have got to go there in January and do a job to get the points.
“Bucharest dug in and we always knew it could be a banana skin here. We just wanted to stick together and not go off as individuals and do our own thing.
“We did that for the main part. There were parts when we went off script, but Chris Pennell got us together when they scored and we switched back on.”
Worcester now prepare to face Leicester in a sold out clash at Sixways on December 27 and Garvey is relishing the prospect of trying to tame the Tigers.
He said: “We are all looking forward to Leicester straight after Christmas – hopefully the boys don’t eat too much turkey!
“We need to come back in good health. We want to get the win and start pushing up the league.
“We also did not pick up any injuries against Bucharest, which is key going into Leicester. We have got Matt Mullan and Matt Kvesic coming back from injury so that is good news.”
