Coach excited by Euro decider in Paris

Coach Phil Davies acknowledged Warriors can look forward to one of the biggest European nights in the club’s history when they travel to Paris next Saturday for the crunch clash with Stade Francais.

Worcester will make the trip over to the French capital knowing only a win is good enough to overtake the mighty Pariseans and claim top spot in Pool 1 and with it a place in the last eight.

If both teams finish level on points after the game, top spot will be decided on the head-to-head record between the teams using match points and then tries scored.

“It is going to be an exciting game – that is for sure,” smiled Davies.

“We are trying to build success here and the last couple of weeks have been good with the first away win in years and first back-to-back wins in some time. That has shown real progression.

“Next week in Paris we have another opportunity to go away to one of the best sides in Europe to compete to move out of the group – we can’t ask for a better opportunity.

“We will assess the squad on Monday and we could well send out a very strong team. But we had a strong team out today, we want a strong squad and that is what you need to have a powerful team. The guys here are working hard to achieve that.

“We want to keep the momentum going and we may look to make some changes and go out there with an opportunity of qualifying.

“After losing to Stade Francais at home in the first game, we wanted to get to this stage of the competition with it all to play for – that is what we have got next week.”
