Hill closing in on new Warriors recruits

Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed he is closing in on a number of new faces to add to the squad at Worcester Warriors – and has declared himself ‘very happy’ with his recruitment drive to date.

Speculation over new arrivals and contract extensions continues to dominate the media and Hill admits a huge amount of work is going on behind the scenes at Sixways.

And he has spoken of the type of player he wants to attract to the Aviva Premiership club as Warriors look to build for the future.

“From January 1 there has been a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes,” he said.

“Lots of people have been coming to the club, I have been out to see people and I have more in this week.

“It is a constant flow of talking and discussing to pull it all together. Suddenly, like when you build a house, you get your foundations down and then it all goes up very quickly. When you are recruiting you have to do a lot of work in all positions.

“I know it seems like nothing is happening, the supporters want to see names. But very quickly we will have announcements – we are on the verge of making several either resigning or signing new players announcements.

“I am very happy. It has gone much better than I had anticipated at this stage of the year.

“Normally I am realistic about it and know it takes a long time to pull together, but I am happy with how it has gone and we have some very good people.

“You want to know not only how good people are as players but also their characters,” he added.

“You can make mistakes as a coach and get someone in that hasn’t got the right attitude, it upsets everybody else.

“For me, you want 35 or 36 players whose attitude is superb. A referee has come in today (Tuesday) to work with the players and said what a fantastic bunch we have here.

“You don’t want arrogant people and you don’t want people that don’t work hard. You want the best possible group in terms of their attitude and work ethic.”
