Coach remains hopeful over Goode injury

Boss Richard Hill was remaining positive over the injury situation concerning star fly half Andy Goode after he limped off in the 15-12 defeat to Sale Sharks.

Goode was at his accurate best to kick three first half penalties, but then pulled up when chasing his own hack through in the final minutes of the opening period.

The former England man carried on until half-time after treatment before he was replaced by Danny Gray during the interval.

“It is a hamstring tendon at the bottom of the knee – Andy could yet be okay next week which is good news.  It doesn’t look too serious,” said Hill.

“Andy has been playing pretty well and I thought he combined with Shaun Perry to control the game really well in the first half.

“It was a blow when Andy went off, but Danny Gray did well to step in.

“We had a tactical game with our nine and ten and they stuck to it to the letter. They were there to run the game and it was a perfect opening 40 minutes with the way we played.

“Losing Andy Goode, who had been training all week in that game plan, was naturally a bit of a blow. Danny stepped in, having not had as much practice as Andy in that role, and did well.”
