Warriors Charity Match Boosts Acorns

Worcester Warriors handed over a cheque this week to Acorns Children’s Hospice for over £6,570 raised at a charity match day in December.

The Warriors handed over the Sixways Upper Lounge to the local charity and donated 150 tickets for the match against Leicester Tigers on December 27, 2011 to help with fundraising.

The Club also raised funds for Acorns through a competition that gave young fans the chance to design the shirt to be worn by the players at the match.  Nine year old Alice Scarrott of Warndon Primary School landed the prize with her winning shooting stars design.

The limited edition shirts can be ordered via the Sixways Store or the Warriors website with 100% of the profits being split between the Warriors’ three nominated charities, including Acorns.

In addition, the actual shirts worn by the players on the day will be signed and available through a series of raffles and auctions, raising even more urgently needed funds for the charities.

Corporate Partnerships Manager at Acorns, Elinor Eustace, said: “The Worcester Warriors deliver invaluable support as one of our official partners.

“The charity match raised more than any other fundraising day to date, with donated ticket sales alone raising £5,200.  This fantastic effort helps us continue to provide care for over 600 local life limited or life threatened children and their families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

Carol Hart, Warriors Community Foundation Manager, said: “Worcester Warriors is a proud and long term supporter of Acorns Children’s Hospice.  The work they do in our community is vital and by working together we can achieve greater results. To raise £6,570 in one day is an amazing achievement and a testament to our supporters who never fail to deliver.”

There is no charge to families to use Acorns’ services, but care costs £750 per child per day.  Acorns relies on fundraising and donations for the majority of its income. For further information about Acorns, visit www.acorns.org.uk or call 0845 140 6892.
