Back row Kai Horstmann has heaped praise on the Sixways faithful for their unwavering support of him and the team over the last seven years as he prepares for his final appearance on home soil this Saturday against London Irish (kick-off 3pm).
Horstmann has clocked up 171 appearances since joining the Warriors from Harlequins in 2005 and has been an integral part of the side at Sixways.
But the curtain will come down on his home career for Worcester this Saturday afternoon and he plans to use the emotion of the day to drive him forward as he once more puts his body on the line.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Warriors,” said the 30-year-old. “What Cecil (Duckworth) has created here is something we should all be proud of.
“I feel very privileged to have been a part of it. I’m looking forward to the next challenge in my life, but it will be sad to go.
“The fans have been unbelievable and it has grown and grown since I have been here,” he added.
“You only have to look at last year, we were sad to be relegated but they still turned out in their thousands to come and watch us play.
“That is huge credit to them and I am very grateful for all the support for me personally and the team over the last few years. It’s been a great honour to play for them.
“I have made some friends for life here. Rugby is a great thing, you go out on the pitch and you put your body on the line. In order to do that you get very passionate about it and as a result you build bonds with people.
“Saturday will definitely be emotional and it is a game we really need to win. A bit of emotion will help to drive us all forward.”
