Team News – Matt Hampson Charity Matches

Former England and British & Irish Lions scrum half Harry Ellis, Warriors legend Thinus Delport and current Leicester boss Richard Cockerill are among the ex-players who will lace up the boots next week as part of two charity matches at Sixways.

A number of past greats will be in action in matches on Wednesday (May 9) in aid of the Matt Hampson Foundation.

A Worcester Warriors staff team will face a charity game against West Midlands Teachers (kick-off 6.30pm).

Then watch Old Worcester versus Old Leicester (kick-off 8pm). The Worcester team includes the likes of Delport, Bruce Fenley, Dave Merlin, Nathan Carter, Dave Simms, Will Bowley, Tony Yapp and Tony Windo. The Leicester team includes Ellis, Richard Cockerill, Darren Grewcock, Andy Key, Mike Umaga, Steve Booth, Pete Sandford, Bill Drake Lee and Mark Charles.

The games are taking place at the home of Warriors in aid of Matt Hampson, a young Leicester and England Under-21 player who has been left paralysed as the result of a training ground scrum accident, the Peace Croft Trust and Warriors Community Foundation.

The two games will feature comebacks from past Sixways legends as well as appearances from staff from Conditioning, Academy, Community and many more areas of the club's backroom team.

“We are urging as many people as possible to come down and show their support for both teams,” said Steve Joslin, Warriors Community Rugby Manager.

“The tickets are only £5 but everybody who turns up is making a difference. Matt has suffered every rugby player's worst nightmare being paralysed from the neck down and unable to breathe unaided.

“He has shown amazing character throughout and he is an incredible inspiration. It is a very worthwhile cause and one that should be supported by every rugby player and fan.”

Fans are advised that entry to the game, that will officiated by Aviva Premiership referee Chris White, is £5 for adults and children. Children under three-years-old go free.

Car parking is also available in advance at £2 per car. Please pre-book by contacting the Warriors Box Office direct for more information.

Dining packages are also available for £10 per person, not including match ticket. For more information and tickets please call the Warriors Box Office on 01905 454183.
