Warriors make behind the scenes Burton trip

Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed how members of the coaching team at Warriors were recently invited to a special behind the scenes tour of the FA’s new National Football Centre in Burton.

Hill was joined by Head of Medical Services Mike Lancaster and Head of Strength & Conditioning Stuart Pickering for a tour of the facilities.

Thirty years since the concept of a National Football Centre was first mooted, St. George’s Park is now under construction and scheduled to open its doors in the next couple of months.

Described as an inspirational new home for innovation in sporting performance, it will become the educational hub for English Football for Coach Education and all our development programmes.

SGP will also feature two new hotels operated by Hilton and, with Spire Healthcare, the country’s first fully integrated Sports Medicine Centre of its type.

“It was an interesting trip for us and we were pleased to be invited,” commented Hill. “We got to see what the vision is for Burton and a lot of work is going on.

“It was still a hard hat job and we saw all the site and what it will offer. It’s still very much a building site in places, but you can see what it will become.

“The indoor football pitches are all complete and very impressive. It will be a good training environment for teams and they would clearly like to see sides like the Warriors use it.

“With two hotels on site it can certainly entertain a lot of sporting athletes and they will be looking to get them all in.

“The Sports Medicine Centre is an area that I was impressed by,” he added. “They have a top quality pool and it is very specialised so you can get altitude training environments there too.

“It’s somewhere we could possibly look at in the future, but for now we are very much based at Sixways and very proud of the facilities we have here.”
