Fly half Gray to miss the start of the season

Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed fly half Danny Gray will miss the start of the new Aviva Premiership season after undergoing surgery on an injured shoulder.

Gray played 14 games during his debut Sixways season, including the final league game of the year against Northampton Saints, and scored 36 points.

However, the 29-year-old has now started rehabilitation on his shoulder after going under the knife on Monday, that will see him miss the opening months of the new campaign.

“The only player who will not start the new season at the moment is Danny Gray,” said Hill.

“He injured a shoulder at the end of last year and thought he could continue with it. But he has now gone in for an operation because it was a dislocation waiting to happen. He will be out until the end of October which is a disappointment to Danny.

“Danny started well last season for us so he is bitterly disappointed. But it is better to have him 100 per cent right by the end of October rather than playing on 70 or 80 per cent for the course of the season with the danger of a full dislocation which will take a long time.

“At the moment he is the only one out of a squad of 36 who I would say is doubtful for the start of the new season.”
