Drauniniu puts himself in frame for starting place

Double try hero Josh Drauniniu is hoping to secure a starting place against Bath Rugby when the Aviva Premiership season kicks-off after producing a sensational individual performance against Rotherham Titans.

Drauniniu scored two tries and was in magnificent form as he helped Warriors cruise to a 50-10 victory over the RFU Championship side.

And with just one more friendly left before the season kicks-off, the 27-year-old hopes he has given Head Coach Richard Hill something to think about before the season begins on home soil on September 1.

“I don’t know how the coach thinks regarding his team selections and it will be tough because we have so many strong wingers,” said Drauniniu.

“David Lemi, Nikki Walker and Andy Short will all come into the frame once the season gets underway so competition for places will always be high.

“I can’t wait for the Bath match and if picked I will be giving everything I have to help the boys get a result.

“All you can do is keep working hard on your weaknesses and keep improving the things you’re already good at and hope the coach puts his faith in you.”

Drauniniu scored a try in each half, adding to tries from Semisi Taulava (2), Shaun Perry, Aleki Lutui, Jonny Arr and Max Stelling as Warriors ran riot at Sixways.

The winger scored in the corner from an overlap in the first-half before getting on the end of an Andy Goode kick in the second to help his side to victory.

He said: “The boys inside me were screaming to tell me there were gaps inside so I think there was just good communication which helps massively.

“We’ve had a great pre-season. We’re a much tighter unit this year and everyone knows how to play alongside each other.

“The Titans gave us a good first-half to push us but we managed to turn some balls over and run the length of the field so it was a great team performance. It wasn’t based on one or two players.

“The new coaches have made a huge difference since they joined us this summer. Last season we weren’t fortunate to have this calibre of coaches. They have focused on giving players confidence and getting the best out of us.”
