Boss is determined to go on the attack

Richard Hill has called on his Warriors to stay on the attack when they launch the new Aviva Premiership season against Bath Rugby on Saturday afternoon at Sixways Stadium (kick-off 3pm).

Warriors showcased a new attacking verve during pre-season to record impressive victories over Cardiff Blues, Scarlets and Rotherham Titans.

Hill is now keen to integrate a new cutting edge with the rock solid defence that served the club so well back in the English top-flight last season.

And, while he admits the pressure will be on come Saturday afternoon, he insists the Warriors are fired up and ready to hit the floor running after a long pre-season programme.

“You do so much work leading up to the first game that there is always real pressure to perform, it is almost like six cup finals rolled into one, but I have been really pleased with pre-season,” he said.

“It is the best one I have been involved with and the new coaching staff have come in and made their mark. The players have thoroughly enjoyed it and have got better.

“We are undoubtedly a better team now than we were last year, but we must not go into our shells and instead express ourselves as we have done during the pre-season games.

“The pack of forwards has come together really well under Nigel Redman and Dean Schofield, they have good spirit and camaraderie and work hard for each other.

“We have also seen some sparkling attack moves so the key now is to build on that and keep it going. We have set out to try and be more threatening in attack, try and score more tries and I will be extremely disappointed if we don’t score more.”

“We will be less predictable than we were last season,” he added. “I hope we can pose threats to teams and in terms of attack. We have dangerous players in the centre, out wide and we can drive through the guts of an opposition.

“We have worked hard over the summer to give us variety and we hope that will come together against Bath Rugby.”
