Percy vows to achieve ambitions at Sixways

Lock James Percival has vowed to give everything he had to bring success to ‘his boyhood club’ after agreeing a new long-term contract at Worcester Warriors.

Percival, in his second spell at Warriors, has today put pen to paper on a new deal at the Aviva Premiership club.

And the 28-year-old has spoken of the strong reasons behind his fresh commitment to the Warriors.

“The reason I came back to Worcester was to achieve things here,” he said. “We’ve been moving forward as a club and I want to be here when we are winning things, playing Heineken Cup rugby and moving up the league table.

“This is not a stepping stone for me – Worcester has always been my boyhood club and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“Since I was 14 or 15 this was the club I wanted to pull the shirt on for and my passion is as strong as it has always been.

“I have massively enjoyed these last two years,” he added. “I previously worked under Nigel Redman in the Academy so to work with him again has been like a step back for the future in a way.

“There is a massive difference at the club now compared to the past. Phil Larder has had a massive influence and people like Phil Vickery, Corin Palmer and, of course, Richard Hill has made the set-up right.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day – we all know that. But you only have to see what is happening on the pitch to know we are going forward.

“The atmosphere in the club is the best I’ve known it. It’s a genuinely exciting time and I’m pleased to commit and continue to be a part of that.

“We are a very tight group – and I’m not just saying that for the sake of it. We are one big team and we are all pulling in the same direction.”
