Wing Drauniniu returns from injury spell

Flying wing Josh Drauniniu will return to the Warriors squad for Saturday’s trip to Exeter Chiefs as the side look for their first away Aviva Premiership victory of the season.

The 27-year-old has been out of action since injuring his knee in training before the clash with London Irish in September.

Warriors Head Coach Richard Hill will name Drauniniu in his 23-man squad for this weekend’s clash and admitted he was delighted with the player’s return to fitness.

He said: “It’s good news to have Josh back in the squad. He gives us a good option on the wing and is a dangerous player when he runs at the opposition’s defence.

“Errie Claassens played on the wing last weekend and he did a fantastic job so it’s nice to know we have a few options.”

Hill also revealed that Chris Jones may start at Sandy Park after impressing in the back row this season.

The Head Coach continued: “I’ve tried experimenting a little bit to give other players an opportunity to play and the likes of Chris Jones, who has played very well in the back row this season, may get a chance at Exeter.

“Chris is a lock really and a part time back rower but he’s performed very well at number six for us so I’ve got to look at that very carefully.

“There’s only one change to the 23 so we’re going with the same squad but I could well be jiggling things round a little bit.”

Summer signing Nikki Walker, who has been out of action since injuring his hamstring against London Irish, is also close to a return.

Hill added: “Nikki is looking good at the moment and he’s now back in training. We did a full-on defensive session on Wednesday and he looks sharp so he will play against Scarlets in the LV= Cup next weekend.”
