Warriors Assistant Head Coach Nigel Redman says he is enjoying life at Sixways since joining the club’s backroom staff during the summer.
Redman returned to Sixways, where he previously held the role of Academy Manger, after leaving his post as Elite Coach Development Manager at the RFU.
Speaking at the club’s weekly press conference, Redman said: I’m really enjoying my role at Sixways. I was here a number of years ago and it’s great to see a number of players who were in the academy now in the first-team squad.
“I really enjoy working with Richard and the backroom staff. I think the players are a great bunch to work with.
“They work hard and take on information and they’re also buying into a way of playing which is different to what they’ve done in the past.
“We’re now looking to keep the ball in hand more and we’re looking to score more tries with an emphasis on attack.”
The former Bath lock originally left Sixways to become a National Academy Coach in 2004 and coached the national Under 21 and Under 19 sides before leading the England Under 20s to a Six Nations Grand Slam and a Junior World Championship final in 2008.
And he admits it is a good sign that the club are developing a lot of home-grown players who have gone on to play Aviva Premiership rugby.
He added: “I think it’s important that a club like Worcester has players from the local area representing us because it brings authenticity to what we’re trying to achieve through the shirt, the badge and the club philosophy.
“We have that with players such as James Percival, Jonny Arr and Matt Kvesic, who have all come through the club’s academy.
“It’s good for the club that James has signed a new contract because he’s one of our own. He’s come through the academy here and you will not find a harder working player.
“He’s certainly a shining light for players in the academy because they’ll look at him and think ‘he’s come through this route so I can do it too.’ I think he sets an example for everyone with his work-rate and preparation for the game.”
