Coach Nigel Redman insisted there was no time to dwell on cup defeat to London Wasps and all eyes are now firmly on the ‘huge’ Aviva Premiership clash with Saracens this Friday at Sixways.
Worcester scored three tries but left empty handed as they suffered a 28-19 LV=Cup defeat at Adams Park.
However, Redman revealed that, with such a short turnaround between games, every player would be back at Sixways tomorrow (Monday) as preparations for the league encounter with Sarries starts.
“The players don’t get a rest and will be in tomorrow – the coaches don’t get a rest either. Everyone is in because Saracens is a huge game for us.
“We will pull everyone together tomorrow, do a review of this game and then everything is focussed on Friday night and Saracens.
“We now need to make sure that all these players are rehabbed properly and we will make a full medical assessment in the morning.”
Redman admitted a lack of accuracy cost his team in defeat to Wasps, but was quick to praise a number of young stars for impressing.
“It was a great opportunity for people like Richard de Carpentier and he was a massive plus,£ said Redman.
“Ollie Hayes and Rob O’Donnell got full games and Ryan Furniss came on for Ceri Jones and got game time. He is an Academy prop so it was really good to see him.
“We’ve got to look after our props and we have had a couple of knocks in training leading up to this game.
“It gives a young player like Ryan Furniss a wonderful chance in a meaningful competition. Ceri (Jones) is going to be involved on Friday so we need to keep him off his feet.
“Ryan’s last game in the senior side was at Northampton last season. He’s not hit a senor scrum in anger since then, the physicality and intensity is raised at this level and he has got to get into the game. It was a baptism of fire, but as the game progressed he got better.
“It was a good opportunity today for players to put pressure on those starting in the league.
“They made a step forward and they have learnt what it takes to play at this level and go out and play in front of 5,000 at Adams Park. You have for to be more accurate.
“This competition is for young players and Ben Howard also came on and scored a try. Andy Short, who I thought for a youngster showed a lot of composure, was moved around positions and did really well too and was solid.”
