Mr T delighted with Sixways touch down

Giant number eight Semisi Taulava was the hero at Sixways as his second-half try helped Warriors to a 13-6 win in a tight Aviva Premiership affair.

The 29-year-old bundled his way over the line after a break from Josh Matavesi and admitted he was delighted to play his role in an important victory.

He said: “I am very happy to get the try. I scored a few in the Championship over the last few seasons so I’m always confident I can go over the whitewash now and again.

“It was a big team effort tonight. Our forwards did a lot of work up front and I got the try. Josh Matavesi made a great line-break and I just happened to be in the right place.”

In a game dominated by defences, Warriors made the most of their limited chances to pick up their seventh consecutive win at Sixways.

And Taulava acknowledged his side avoided a potential banana skin against this season’s surprise package.

He continued: “London Welsh have beaten four good sides this season so they were always going to be strong. We knew it was going to come down to a bit of yo-yo kicking. The conditions didn’t really suit anything else and their tactic was to kick high and chase hard.

“They waited for us to make mistakes but we dealt with their strategy pretty well. It was one of those banana skin games but we came out on top.”

The former Rotherham player is now looking forward to next Friday’s trip to basement side Sale Sharks and believes his side have been given another lift.

He added: “We wanted a good Christmas boost and we got the points today so we’re looking up and that’s what we were aiming for.

“We want to back this up now with a win at Sale and stamp our mark going into the New Year. We’ve shown what we can do and everyone wants to keep that momentum going.”
