Abbott looking forward to Rovigo clash

Jake Abbott is set to make his third start of the season in tomorrow’s Amlin Challenge Cup clash at Femi-CZ VEA Rovigo and is aiming to help his side to another big win.

The flanker missed a large part of the campaign before Christmas after sustaining a hamstring injury but will return for his first European game of the season.

He said: “It’s been a long time without a game so I’m massively looking forward to playing. I think we’ll score a lot of points so it’s a nice one to feed your way back into.

“I’m desperate to get a run of games together and I’ll be doing all I can to get back into the team.”

The previous meeting between the clubs in October saw Warriors cruise to a 90-3 victory to earn maximum points.

And while Abbott admits tomorrow's game will be tougher, he expects the side to replicate a similar result.

He continued: “The first 20 minutes is going to be tough because they’ll be at home but as long as we stick to our game plan, we’ll break them down. Then hopefully the floodgates will open and I would like to think it will be another high-scoring game.”

The 24-year-old also believes that a good performance from certain players in the next few games will put them in contention for a regular starting place for the rest of the season.

He added: “There will be changes for the next four games and that will create competition in the squad as everyone wants to make the starting line-up.

“It’s hugely important for us to do well in this period because we want to push players in front of us and improve the team.”
