Flanker raring to go after committing to Warriors

Richard de Carpentier admits he can’t wait to play his first game since signing a new contract at Sixways.

The flanker committed to Warriors along with three other players on Tuesday and has been handed another start in the back row alongside Jake Abbott and Blair Cowan for tomorrow’s LV= Cup clash with Saracens.

He said: “I’m very happy to be at the club. I’ve been here a while now and I like the environment. The club is going in the right direction so I’m really happy to sign on.

“Since I joined, I’ve seen the mentality that Sixways is a fortress and we don’t mess around here. And that’s the same in the Aviva Premiership, the Amlin Challenge Cup and LV= Cup.

“I’m really looking forward to the game tomorrow and it’s important for us. Players are playing for places and we’ll be taking it as seriously as every other game this season.”

De Carpentier has started every LV= Cup match this season and believes the competition has helped to develop him as a player.

He continued: “It’s been a good experience coming into the first-team environment in the LV= Cup. When you’re not involved it’s a bit disappointing but I’m working hard to push the boys in front of me.

“I think the LV= Cup is a good platform to see some of the younger players in the first-team environment playing against some top players.”

Richard Hill’s men return to Aviva Premiership action next weekend when they travel to Bath Rugby, who are currently just one point and one place ahead of them in the table.

And with nine league matches remaining, De Carpentier is focused on forcing his way into Hill’s first-team plans.

He added: “My aim now is to try and break into the team and I’ll be doing all I can to achieve that.

“I’m still to make my Aviva Premiership debut so fingers crossed in the next few months I’ll get an opportunity to show what I can do.”
