Blair Cowan is aiming to make the number eight shirt his own when the side return to Aviva Premiership action after scoring another try against Saracens today.
Cowan went over the whitewash after 15 minutes for his fourth try in as many matches before Saracens kicked their way to a 22-12 victory.
And according to the forward, he is now focused on securing a spot in Richard Hill’s starting team.
He said: “It’s always been my aim to get that number eight shirt. Semisi has been in great form this season and it’s been a good battle with him.
“You’ve got to step up week by week and whenever you get the chance. I’ve been building in the Amlin, the LV= and hopefully now the Premiership.
“I’m starting to feel my game fitness out there and it’s definitely coming together for me.”
The Kiwi admitted he was disappointed to be on the losing side today and believes Saracens were looking to settle an old score, having lost here in the league in November.
He continued: “Last time we played them we beat them and they were taking this game personally because they would have felt like they owed us one.
“We left too much to do too late. When we came out after half-time, our defence stepped it up but it’s a shame we didn’t do enough earlier.”
Warriors travel to Bath next weekend in their first Premiership match for a month and Cowan is urging his side to concentrate on one game at a time.
He added: “Even leading into today’s clash we’ve been talking about taking it game by game. Sometimes if you look too far ahead it can disrupt how you play.
“We’ll start on Monday with a review of this game. Then we’ll preview the Bath fixture and train with intent to ensure we’re in the best position to get a win.
