Lock James Percival has urged players and fans at Sixways to stand united and keep the ‘belief and confidence’ as Warriors prepare to face Northampton Saints on home soil this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
Warriors welcome the Saints in a huge league encounter as both teams look for a win to fire them up the table.
Percival knows only too well what the mentality will be at Franklins Gardens this week having spent two years as a Saints player between 2005 and 2007.
But the 29-year-old will always remain Worcester to the core and while he admits recent results have hurt he insists the players must keep the belief.
“We have got to retain the belief and confidence,” he said. “We took it to Leicester Tigers, where we played some of our best rugby, and the other top teams who have come to Sixways so there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to that against Northampton.
“We have got to believe. When you lose a game it is easy to close in on yourself and keep it tight. But we can’t hold back and it is down to us as players. We have got to be more clinical in what we do.
“The top teams are playing an expansive style of rugby and taking risks in attack. We can’t go back to what people think Worcester are about and start chugging it up around the corner all the time and using lineouts.
“The fans are massive at home for us,” he added. “With the results, I know it can be hard for fans to stay positive and keep backing us.
“I know that I give everything I can on the pitch for the supporters and I’m in the same shoes as them, it’s my home club and it hurts when we lose, I want the club to do well.
“When we don’t do well I am just as frustrated as they are. I go home and have friends and family who support this club and they are in my ear all the time. A win is massive and we have got to keep the belief.”
