Grove aiming to recreate Leicester performance

Alex Grove believes his side can return to winning ways against Northampton if they can recreate their first-half performance from January’s clash with Leicester Tigers.

Warriors stormed to a 14-5 half-time lead before Leicester came back and stole victory with a last-minute penalty try.

The performance received praise from many pundits and, according to Grove, Warriors must try to hit those highs on Saturday.

He said: “They don’t really come any bigger than games against Leicester Tigers and Northampton Saints and we’ll be aiming for a similar performance on Saturday.

“Northampton are one of the biggest teams in the Premiership and the opportunity to get a positive result is what everyone here is striving to achieve.”

Northampton slipped to a surprising defeat at home to Gloucester last weekend and Grove thinks Jim Mallinder’s side will come to Sixways aiming to rediscover the form which saw them storm to the top of the table at the start of the campaign.

He continued: “They wouldn’t have been expected to slip up against Gloucester especially on their own patch. So this game will mean so much to them.

“They’ve got stars across their side. They’ll have players back from international duty with the break this weekend and we’ll have our work cut out.”

Warriors have won four of their seven home league games this season and went eight games without losing in all competitions at Sixways earlier this campaign.

With London Wasps, Exeter Chiefs and Harlequins all set to visit before the season ends, Grove is confident his side can go on another unbeaten run.

“We’ve got eight games to go. Four of those are at home and generally our form at Sixways has been good.

“So if we manage to win our home games and pick up that away win we’re all desperate for, it will have been a good season.”
