Hill ready to make changes for derby day

Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed he is set to make changes for the derby day clash with Gloucester with several players ‘keen to prove a point’ as Warriors head to Kingsholm on Friday night.

Hill admitted full back Chris Pennell could be set to feature after recovering from a knee injury while others were pushing for call-ups as Warriors look for a crucial Aviva Premiership victory.

“We will make one or two changes and we have some good players who will come in keen to prove a point,” said Hill.

“You have got to keep changing things around if you are not winning, trying to find the right combinations.

“We have got Chris Pennell back so he will come into the 23; I am not sure whether he will start yet or be in the squad.

“Euan Murray is with us because Scotland play on a Sunday, but there might be three or four changes to the side also.

“Blair Cowan could also be involved,” he added. “He is desperate to play and he will be brought into the squad.

“He adds to our attack because he is an intelligent rugby player and he is certainly not forgotten. Friday could be his chance.

“Blair got injured at the start of the season and Semisi Taulava came in and he was not supposed to be our starting Number Eight. But he played so well he kept his place.

“Blair has been very patient to wait, it has been hard for him to watch others play, but he is a very good player and it might be the right time to bring him in.

“I don’t think Semisi will be available for this game or Wasps, but with a bit of luck he should make the London Irish game alongside Chris Jones.”
