Warriors Under 18s ended their campaign with defeat at Leeds Carnegie in the final game of the Premiership Under 18 season.
Mark Hewitt’s side got off to a fantastic start and dominated field position. They took an early six-point lead through two Elliott Davies penalties.
As the game progressed Warriors were guilty of conceding a string of penalties at the breakdown which allowed the hosts to pile pressure on the Warriors defence and utilise their big forwards.
After defending a series of catch and drives Leeds finally went over for their first converted try to give them a 7-6 lead.
Leeds added another penalty soon after and went over for their second try from another catch and drive to take the score to 15-6 at the break.
Warriors started the second-half on top, as they had done 40 minutes earlier and put together a series of good passages of play.
But Leeds turned the ball over in their own 22 and launched a counter-attack before finally going over the whitewash underneath the posts.
From the kick-off Warriors got back on top and forced Leeds to give away penalties at the breakdown.
This allowed the visitors to kick for the corner and Callum Young barged his way over after a powerful drive.
A period of further Warriors pressure ensued and Dan Hope squeezed over in the corner for another try after some excellent build-up play.
With Warriors just six points behind grandstand finish followed as both sides played some entertaining rugby.
However, indiscipline at the breakdown by Warriors allowed Leeds to kick for the corner and they drove over for their fourth try of the afternoon to make the final score 29-16.
After the match Academy manager Mark Hewitt said: “Once again we were very competitive in most areas. However Leeds definitely had the edge on our forwards, which has been the story throughout this campaign.
“I believe this young group have really benefited by playing at this level even though we have not won a game.
“We have seen some stand-out performances from a number of individuals and the majority will be available to play in this tournament next season.
“With these players and the group below moving up we should be more than competitive next season.”
