De Carpentier named in England Sevens squad

Worcester flanker Richard De Carpentier has today been drafted into the England squad for this month’s Cathay Pacific HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.

De Carpentier, 22, returns to the fold nearly two years after featuring at Murrayfield at the end of the 2010-11 campaign.

Head Coach Ben Ryan aims to build on a good start to 2013 that saw England clinch the Wellington Sevens title in dramatic style last month.

Ryan said: “We’ve made a couple of changes to the winning 12 from Wellington and we have more players fit and available to us. Our thanks go to Worcester for letting Richard de Carpentier train and play with us, which will continue his development as a player.

“Our goals in Hong Kong (March 29-31) and at the following leg in Tokyo (April 6-7) are the same as they were when we went to Wellington: keep on improving our performance so that we keep moving up the table.

“We also want to make the most of the incredible support for England in Hong Kong and we’ve certainly got a spring in our step heading to So Kon Po.”
