Ed Shervington admitted he is delighted with Warriors’ attacking intent this season after his side secured their third try bonus point of the season during last Friday’s victory over Wasps.
Warriors have racked-up try bonus points against Northampton Saints, London Irish and London Wasps this season and, according to the hooker, it shows how far the side have come.
He said: “We’ve always tried to play attacking rugby this season and, when everything clicks, we’re a top side.
“Our performance against Wasps shows what we can do. It’s hard to do that every week but three try bonus points in a season is a step in the right direction.”
Warriors have scored 26 Aviva Premiership tries this season – three more than they scored during the entire campaign last time out.
And with five games remaining, Shervington has challenged his teammates to keep scoring tries.
He continued: “We haven’t scored tries in every match and there will always be times where the points will come from kicks.
“But as the weather gets warmer and pitches get drier, we will be able to play a more attacking style of rugby.
“The pitch was unbelievable against Wasps compared to what it has been like. When you’ve got a pitch like that you can play running rugby. The dry conditions will suit us now and hopefully we will score more tries.”
Last weekend’s victory keeps Richard Hill’s men in ninth position in the Aviva Premiership table – eight points above London Irish.
And Shervington is now focussed on chasing Exeter Chiefs, who occupy eight position.
He added: “This league is so intense. There are battles for the top four, top six and to avoid relegation. That’s what makes it the best league in the world potentially.
“We all love playing and the victory against Wasps does take a bit of pressure off. We’ve always been looking at the teams above us and we’ll continue to try and close the gap between us and Exeter.”
