Jones set for double century Premiership milestone

Chris Jones is set to join an exclusive list of Premiership rugby players when he makes his 200th top-flight appearance the next time he pulls on a Warriors shirt.

The giant lock has racked-up 199 Premiership appearances since making his debut for Sale in 2002 and, with Warriors set to visit Saracens’ new Allianz Park next Sunday, Jones is hoping he will reach the milestone against the league leaders.

He said: “It’s absolutely massive for me and you get a real sense of achievement from it. The only way to celebrate is to get our first away win of the season and that’s all I’ll be concentrating on.

“I’ve been relatively lucky with injuries and that has helped with consistency. There are a lot of great players out there who would have played a lot more games if they hadn’t got injuries.”

Jones is the 20th highest Premiership appearance maker of all time and can overtake the likes of Andy Long and Mark Regan if he plays in Warriors’ final three matches this season.

The top 20 list includes Warriors legends Chris Fortey and Pat Sanderson and Jones insists he is focused on racking-up as many games as he can at Sixways.

He continued: “I want to get as many games as possible under my belt and hopefully a few years down the line I will have played a lot of games for Worcester.

“You don’t really look at the statistics though. It’s just about playing as well as you can, getting in the side and performing well as a team.”

Jones made 166 top-flight appearances for Sale Sharks before moving to Worcester and starred as the Cheshire side beat Leicester Tigers to win the Premiership trophy in 2006.

He added: “You always pick out the games where you win silverware. The biggest game of my career was the Premiership final.

“It was a fantastic game. Someone told me the other week it was raining on the day but I always remember it being sunny so it’s amazing what rose-tinted glasses can do.

“I’ve got a lot of good memories from my time in the Premiership and I’m hungry to make more here.”
