Shaun Perry signed off his rugby career with a trophy after he was named the Aviva Community Player of the Season for his work with the Acorns Children’s Hospice.
At the Aviva Premiership Rugby Awards at the London Hilton, Park Lane the Worcester Warriors scrum-half got the nod over Jamie George, Tane Tu'ipulotu, Soane Tonga'uiha, Myles Dorrian and Tinus Du Plessis.
Injury has forced him to call time on his career but Perry admitted it was an honour to earn the recognition for his work.
He said: “It's nice to get an award, the only one I've won in my career so it will go down well. For every fat kid out there, there is a chance so stick with it.
“To be an international and play for your country is awesome. To score on your first Test is always nice. It's a great achievement and I've enjoyed every minute of it.
“It is a great achievement as a player. I have had a severe injury and have been out of rugby for a while so to get involved with Acorns is a great achievement, it is a special place to go and I am honoured to receive the rewards.
“Acorns is a special place that looks after children with life-limiting illnesses and it can get you down but it puts it into perspective and to go there and see the children makes you take a step back and think.”
Perry was the first award winner of the evening and he was quickly followed by the Gatorade Game Changer of the Season Ollie Lindsay-Hague.
The electric Harlequins full-back has had to bide his time this season but seized his chance when he got it, with a sensational display against London Welsh.
And the final winner in the first set of awards was Freddie Burns, who picked up the Gilbert Golden Boot as the Aviva Premiership's top points scorer this season.
The Gloucester fly-half, who will travel with England to Argentina this summer, edged Gareth Steenson out by a single point, earning some measure of revenge for the 40-39 Exeter Chiefs win at Sandy Park on Saturday.
