The Warriors Community team have been busy working with people across Worcestershire over the last year and have been given the perfect reward for their efforts after being nominated for a top prize at the All Parliamentary Premiership Rugby Community Awards 2013.
The club have continued to have a positive impact on people from all walks of life across the region thanks to the work of the Warriors Community Foundation.
After a season of highs and lows on the pitch, Warriors continued to excel off the pitch after developing schemes such as ‘Walk like a Warrior’, which aims to help young people develop their leadership, teamwork and communication skills whilst helping to build confidence.
Off the back of the Community team’s efforts, the club have been nominated for the Community Impact Award, supported by Aviva.
Worcester Warriors Community Foundation Manager Carol Hart believes the club is driven by its community focus.
She said: “We are delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious awardalongside Saracens.
“Warriors have a long history of community involvement; it is and always has been an integral part of our business.
“It is our philosophy and belief that in order to build a successful business, you must build safe, strong and healthy communities.
“This commitment is at the core of our club – it is what we do, day in and day out – and our players and staff acknowledge and fulfil their responsibility to society as part of their role every day.
“Our community initiatives are about changing lives, creating opportunities and raising aspirations.
“We measure our success by the impact we have on young lives. This work is done both out in the community and at Sixways Stadium which boasts some of the best facilities and staff in the Premiership.”
Community Education Coordinator Dave Rogers believes the club's nomination alongside Saracens, winner of the community club of the year in 2012, proves how far the club have come.
He added: “The whole club considers itself a community club and it is at the heart of everything. It has a community focus and we try to get in every area of Worcestershire we can.
“The fact that our chairman Cecil Duckworth has taken part in our community projects shows it is from the top down.
“Our flagship programme 'Walk Like A Warrior' has been going for seven years and is aimed purely at disadvantaged kids or those with low confidence and it is our duty to the community to help them get motivated in school.
“The Worcester Community Foundation raises money in order to run the programmes and it is part of the club and a supportive charity.
“To see all the different things we do now is amazing. Saracens have been leading the way for many years and being nominated alongside them is proof of how far we have come.”
The All Parliamentary Premiership Rugby Community Awards 2013 are on Wednesday 19 June at the House of Commons.
