Boss praise for captain Thomas on debut

Dean Ryan was quick to praise the performance of Number Eight Jonathan Thomas on debut for Warriors – but insisted no decision over captaincy at Sixways was yet finalised.

Former Wales international Thomas moved to Warriors from Ospreys in the summer after over ten years with the Welsh region.

The powerful back row shone in the 29-18 win over Rotherham Titans in the club’s opening pre-season game on home soil.

However, Ryan revealed, in terms of captaincy, several players would lead the team during the friendly games.

“JT is a good leader and he showed he is also a pretty good player. A couple of people will share captaincy during pre-season and then I will have to make a decision,” he said.

“I am never as over focussed on the captain as the media are. I tend to see three or four people who make those decisions and lead the team.

“It’s obvious that JT is one of them, he is a natural leader and for a lad who has been ten years at one club that was quite a marker to put down in his first game. I am delighted for him.”
