Drauniniu ready for season opener at Leicester

Josh Drauniniu admits he will be ready for the Aviva Premiership season to begin when Warriors travel to Leicester Tigers this Sunday.

Warriors’ season gets underway at last season’s champions and, according to Drauniniu, the side can’t wait to get started.

He said: “I’m looking forward to the match and the other players are looking forward to it. We’re really pleased with how we’ve trained this week and we’ve been through a lot of scenarios so we’ll be ready.

“It will be a challenge. They won the league last season so it will be tough for us. But it’s a new regime under Dean Ryan and everyone is raring to go.”

Drauniniu’s side played out two closely contested matches against Leicester last season. Warriors almost secured a losing bonus-point at Welford Road last September and Drauniniu believes the Sixways side can build on that on Sunday.

He continued: “We travelled to Leicester for our second game of last season and we put some points across. We got in their 22 and got a couple of tries.

“And a lot has changed since then. Pre-season was a great way of showing how far we’ve come and we’ve learnt a lot. We’re building and we’ll see what we can do at Welford Road.”

Drauniniu will be doing all he can to secure a place in the team which starts at Leicester and has paid tribute to the competition in the squad.

He added: “The boys are confident and there’s a lot of competition for places. Everyone wants to play in the first game.

“A lot of players want to get their Aviva Premiership debut for Worcester and Welford Road is a great place to do it. It’s a test and we’ll give everything we have in their back yard.”
