Worcester Sixth Form College secured one victory and displayed fantastic ambition during yesterday’s RFU AASE Pre-Season festival at Sixways.
Despite going down to St Paul’s and Hartpury College, Worcester’s talented youngsters produced a number of eye-catching performances in the competition.
The festival featured sevens teams in two pools; one pool of the three which saw Filton, Oaklands and Mysercough play each play each other in 45 minute matches and a pool of four featuring St.Paul’s, Hartpury, Gosforth and Worcester Sixth From College in 30 minute matches.
Last year’s AASE champions Hartpury, made up of faces which included the likes of last year’s Wales Under 16s captain Sid Blackmore, continued where they left off last season with a 15-0 win against Gosforth in their first game, before falling to a shock 10-5 defeat to St Paul’s in their second match.
St Paul’s ran in an impressive 13 tries on the day and only conceded three tries, one of which was scored by Worcester.
In the second pool, last year’s AASE Cup semi-finalists Filton beat a resilient Myerscough College side, who were runners-up in last season’s Bowl competition.
They then turned on the burners to beat last year’s beaten AASE Cup finalists Oakland’s College 40-10 – with England Under 18 centre Lucas Slowik scoring four tries.
