Youngsters get England Under 18s call-up

Warriors youngsters Huw Taylor and Sam Smith have been called-up to the England Under 18 Development Camp squad.

The Old Swinford Hospital duo, who are part of Warriors’ Under 18s set-up, will link-up with the 38-man squad at Loughborough University next week.

Taylor has appeared in all four Worcester Cavaliers matches this season while Smith has appeared in three.

Academy Manager Mark Hewitt said: “I am delighted to see two of our youngsters rewarded for their progression with an international call-up.

“They have both done well for the Cavaliers this season against sides who have fielded experienced Aviva Premiership players.”

The England Under 18 programme, run by John Fletcher alongside assistant Peter Walton, accelerates the development of future stars with matches against European opponents and a tour to the Southern Hemisphere each year.

Meanwhile, five Academy players have signed for other clubs on dual registration.

Tom Chapman, who impressed in the JP Morgan Sevens back in August, is enjoying a spell at Nottingham Rugby in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Elliott Davies and Jack Cosgrove have joined fellow Championship side Doncaster Knights while George de Cothi and James Young have moved to SSE National League 2 North side Bromsgrove.

Hewitt added: “Our academy players are getting a chance to play first-team rugby at a good level.

“Later in the season when there are fewer Cavaliers fixtures we hope to see more of our academy players developing their game at Championship clubs.”
