Ryan – Players confident after Northampton performance

Dean Ryan says his players will go into tonight’s clash with Biarritz full of confidence after an impressive performance against Northampton Saints on Saturday.

Warriors frustrated last season’s Aviva Premiership finalists and found themselves ahead after an hour of the match, before Northampton turned the game around late on.

And, according to the Warriors Director of Rugby, his side are growing in belief.

He said: “We were able to get some confidence from being able to frustrate one of the best sides in the country defensively at the same time as creating some pressure situations ourselves.

“So that is starting to come. We are starting to move the group to understanding how to be competitive week in week out.”

Warriors host Biarritz tonight in the third round of the Amlin Challenge Cup, knowing that a win could see them leapfrog their opponents.

And Ryan is expecting a tough clash against the side which won the competition in 2012.

He continued: “Biarritz have some star-studded players but their Top 14 form is not what you would expect.

“Anyone who writes them off is underestimating the world-class players, who can deliver at any time.

“They are incredibly powerful up front. We have to start well and test their motivation to be successful in the Amlin.”

Ryan also added that Warriors full-back Chris Pennell, who signed a new contract this week, will take over goal kicking duties during tonight’s match.

He concluded: “We have three or four goal kickers and we’ll use this match to see a bit more of Chris.

“He has stepped-up a couple of times to take kicks recently and I’ve liked his nerve and confidence so it makes sense for him to kick tonight.”

Seated tickets for Thursday's clash are available from £15 for adults and £7.50 for juniors and are available by calling 01905 459309, visiting the Warriors Box Office or clicking  here.
