Ryan excited by fly-half reunion

Dean Ryan admits he is excited to be reunited with Warriors’ new fly-half Ryan Lamb.

The pair shared a very prosperous spell at Gloucester Rugby and the Director of Rugby is looking to reproduce that success at Warriors.

He said: “We’ve worked together a long time and been very successful together. We went to three finals at Gloucester so I know him well.

“Lamb is here to offer us strength around the number ten area going forward but if he can influence us in the short-term that would be fantastic.

“What he is capable of doing with the ball is second to none. My job is to harness some of that and manage others around him and I’m quite energised myself about seeing his enthusiasm.”

Ryan praised his new acquisition, who has also played at London Irish, Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers.

And he believes the new stand-off can be a catalyst for moving Warriors forward over the next few years.

He explained: “Lamb was frustrated by lack of game-time at Leicester but he is a quality English ten. His talent is unquestionable.

“Where we are here and now, he offers something different for us but more importantly, the decision to bring him in was framed around him being here in the future.

“I’d love him to be a part of the catalyst in taking this club through the next few years.”

Warriors take on Northampton Saints at Franklin’s Gardens this Saturday (3pm kick-off) on the back of a fine performance against reigning Aviva Premiership champions Leicester.

And Ryan knows his side must demonstrate the same kind of determination and emotion if they are to have a chance of beating the current league-leaders.

He concluded: “If you look at the context of last weekend’s match, we probably won that emotional contest. A performance like that week-in week-out starts to make this club ride at the forefront.

“Playing Saints will be similar. They have a huge focus on set-piece and drive and the test for us is there physically and emotionally.

“If we can’t match that we will come second best so we have to get the same levels if we are to compete this weekend.”
