Ryan wary of big Bath threat

Dean Ryan knows what to expect from a firing Bath Rugby who are looking to book their place in the Aviva Premiership Play-off Semi-Finals.

Warriors travel to The Rec on Saturday (3pm kick-off) in search of a crucial victory as they look to stay in the top-flight for next season.

And Ryan said: “They’re a pretty big outfit. They’ve got a massive drive, a lot of dangerous runners and two really good ball players in George Ford and Kyle Eastmond.

“We’re playing one of the best sides in the country so it’s a really big test for us but we’re going to give it a real crack.”

Last time the two sides met back in November, Bath won 21-6 on a very wet night at Sixways.

And although the weather should be different this time round, Ryan believes Warriors’ opponents will be able to adapt to the conditions.

He explained: “When we played them last time it was torrential rain and Ford managed the game from field position.

“This time will be different but they’ve got the capabilities of competing in torrential rain and then on hard ground the next week.

“However, we feel like we are making strides and we will cause them some problems.”

The former England back-row insists his side can still pull off the great escape but in order to do so he believes they must pull out two wins.

He concluded: “If we get to the final weekend and we haven’t won then that’s it. All we know now is that we have to get a big result on the road. It has to be two wins from the last three.

“If Newcastle go and win a game – all credit to them. But they haven’t looked like they are going to for some time.

“On the other hand, we have been looking like we can win games but we know the maths and the challenge that lies ahead.

“We’re starting to create some expectation about what we can do and with that comes frustration when we don’t get all the pieces together.

“We do feel like we are a side on the up. We’ve got three games to go and we’re prepared to go in the mix and see if we can do something.”
