Worcester Ladies in World Cup glory

Six Worcester Ladies RFC players will return from the Women’s Rugby World Cup in France as world champions after England defeated Canada 21-9 at the final on Sunday.

Worcester players Ceri Large, Katherine Merchant, Lydia Thompson, Rochelle Clark, Heather Fisher and Laura Keates all featured for their country at the tournament, where England picked up the trophy at the Jean Bouin Stadium in Paris.

After three successive final defeats in 2002, 2006 and 2010, tries from Danielle Waterman and Emily Scarratt helped the ladies win the final to pick up the trophy for the first time in 20 years.

Merchant and Clark both started in the final along with former Warriors Community Coach Tamara Taylor, while Keates came off the bench during the second-half.
