Warriors Under 16s in Festival success

Warriors Under 16s tasted success at Leicester Grammar School on Friday, winning every game at the RFU North and Midlands Academies Under 16s Festival.

The teenagers defeated Newcastle Falcons, Yorkshire Carnegie and Leicester Tigers without conceding a single point.

The young Warriors’ first fixture was against a well-organised Newcastle Falcons side.

Playing into a strong wind, Falcons camped on the Warriors line for the first-half, applying a huge amount of pressure but the commitment and intensity in defence saw Warriors hold them out.

Some smart rugby in the second-half saw Warriors get a score through Ted Hill to take the spoils 7-0.

In the second game Warriors took on Yorkshire Carnegie and with Warriors feeling more confident playing into the wind, they scored three tries through Jacob Matthews, Dylan Moss and Alex Hearle during the first-half.

After the break, the Yorkshire side came out the blocks and put Warriors under pressure making several line-breaks but Warriors responded with some desperate scramble defence.

Warriors added a score at the death through Davon Williams to make the final score 26-0.

The last game of the day saw Warriors take on Leicester Tigers.

Warriors starved the opposition of positions and took the lead through a well-executed catch and drive, with Hill emerging from the pile of bodies with the ball, but it was all thanks to an eight-man effort from the forwards.

Not to be outdone, the backs soon got amongst the action and a well-worked try allowed Isaac Blake-Mills into the corner to take the game 12-0.

The Academy staff would like to thank Warwickshire RFU, the North Midlands District Unions and the schools and clubs within each constitution body for their continued support.
