Ryan proud of most ‘cohesive’ performance of season

Dean Ryan admits he was proud to witness his side display their most cohesive performance of the season following their 47-7 victory at Rotherham Titans.

Warriors racked-up six tries on their way to victory and dominated proceedings at one of the toughest grounds in the Greene King IPA Championship.

And with a string of senior players missing from the side, Ryan was full of praise for his youngsters.

He said: “I’m just really proud of the young group which came here and got a job done and it reinforces why
we’re pushing these youngsters into the front.

“This is one of the really tough Championship grounds because of the uniqueness of the venue. There was rain during the morning and wind coming in and we talked about being clinical and just nailing down the points.

“It’s the most cohesive, the most on-script and the most passionate we’ve been about nailing a game so early.

“We will have matured a lot from this sort of experience and the players will have gained a huge amount from it.”

Warriors are still without star names such as Ryan Lamb, Chris Pennell and Jonathan Thomas. And, according to Ryan, he could not have asked for any more from his side at Clifton Lane.

He continued: “We had ten or 11 experienced players unavailable today. They’re all waiting in the wings so for this group to operate like they did makes it an extremely proud day for this rugby club.

“I’m delighted that I’ve seen young men taking their chances and that’s what we’re creating this club to be.”

Warriors travel to Nottingham next Sunday, and Ryan says he will look to mix things up as he continues his plans to develop everyone at Sixways.

He added: “We can really give the club a good shake-up now and give people more opportunities because they’re responding – and that is making a really vibrant and healthy place.

“We can also develop different coaches so that we’ve got people heading up the B&I programme which aren’t me or Carl.”
