Pennell wins Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Award

Warriors full-back Chris Pennell has been named Sports Personality of the Year at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards.

The 27-year-old saw-off competition from Beth Crumpton, Claire Cashmore, Moeen Ali and Sascha Kindred to pick-up the award on Tuesday night’s ceremony held at Sixways.

The most prestigious honour bestowed at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Awards, the Sports Personality of the Year award with Bullivant Media, was the only award determined by a public vote.

Pennell said: “I’m delighted to win this award as the category included four other sportspeople who have all enjoyed a remarkable year. It was a fantastic ceremony and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.”

Pennell has enjoyed a milestone year during 2014, during which time he made his England debut against New Zealand at Eden Park and was nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season award.

He has been a standout performer at Sixways under Dean Ryan and signed a new contract to remain at Sixways until at least June 2017.

Pennell added: “Making my England debut was a surreal experience and something I am very proud of so I’m now focused on working hard to get as many opportunities as I can.”
