Ryan – Players are not taking their places for granted

Dean Ryan admits his players are not taking their places for granted following their successful start to the 2014/15 season.

Warriors return to action against Bedford Blues tonight and have included in the team a number of players who have impressed during recent B&I Cup matches.

And, according to Ryan, all his players will have an opportunity to show what they can do.

He said: “We’ve made some selections this week that are again another chance for some guys to really move forward because that’s what a competitive club is.

“It’s about selection not being taken for granted and selection being something that is an illustration of somebody really coming up on the outside and getting better than the player who held his position at the beginning of the season.

“We have to be better at the tail end of the season than we were at the start and we’ll put everything into that.”

Ryan rested his senior group of players for the recent B&I Cup run – a decision which was vindicated when the younger members of the squad secured three consecutive victories in the competition.

And Ryan says he has taken a lot from what he has witnessed in recent weeks.

He continued: “We’ve got a clear idea about what we want and so far it’s worked well in giving youngsters game time.

“They’ve been successful in the B&I Cup and the A League, which is fantastic for their development.”

And with Warriors looking to overcome a Bedford side who have won their last two league matches, Ryan has called for his players to hit the ground running.

He added: “We’re back to normal business so we really need to get back into Championship mode and come at it with a real lift in what we’re trying to achieve.”

“We’re not prepared to allow us a little bit of lag while we find our feet back in the Championship.”
