Ryan praises ‘clinical’ Warriors

Director of Rugby Dean Ryan praised his Warriors after they stormed to a 42-12 win over Bedford Blues in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Despite the wet and slippery conditions at Sixways, Warriors looked menacing on the attack all evening and Ryan admits it was a “clinical” display against a “resilient” Bedford.

He said: “I’m really pleased as a lot of guys coming back looked sharp and clinical.

“The ball was difficult to hold onto. If it was a dry night I think there would have been mayhem with the amount of breaks that we made.

“Bedford were really resilient and that’s as tough a team defensively that we’ve had to play against this season.

“They caused a lot of problems at the breakdown which made things a bit scrappy.”

Ryan Lamb kicked five out of five conversions on his return to the side and the Director of Rugby was quick to praise the fly-half.

He explained: “It’s pleasing to see Lamby return and Ryan Mills playing again. Lamby is a great catalyst for things going on around him.

“You put a lot of pressure on him and it exposes other things and he tends to find them.

“He can do magic things with the ball and I thought the opening he put in for Ben Howard and Max Stelling where he double-pumped the ball was just top-class.”

The Director of Rugby also praised the heroics of flanker Gilbert who notched two tries late on.

He added: “He’s the story of this club. He’s come here, had a chance and taken it. He epitomises everything we want here.”

And with Warriors playing at Plymouth Albion next weekend, Ryan hinted at more changes to his “competitive squad”.

He concluded: “We’ve got to make sure we give people opportunities to respond. Some people are playing really well but there are also some people eager to get out there and play.

“Ignacio Mieres, Alex Grove and Andy Symons all want to be playing so I’m really looking forward to seeing what they’ve got to respond with.

“We’re not picking a team for specific games. We’re just picking a team each week to keep each other competing.

“I think we’re playing at a level higher than we were three weeks ago which is what we want and we’re driving things upwards.”
