Betty steps up as Acorns Ambassador

Warriors’ Sam Betty has been announced as the club’s official Player Ambassador for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The flanker, who joined Warriors in 2011, steps up to the role for the 2014/15 season to help support the charity in its work providing care for local life-threatened and life-limited children and young people and their families.

He said: “Warriors and Acorns go back a long way. All the players here at Sixways are up to speed with the amazing work the charity does. The cause is close to our hearts and we are ready to help in any way we can.”

Acorns offers a network of care for children and support to their families across the West Midlands.

In the last year Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Bath Road, Worcester, supported more than 180 children and over 230 families, including those who are bereaved.

It costs £750 per day for each child’s care at the hospice and Acorns relies on the community to fund the majority of its activities.

Betty added: “I’m really proud to be the Player Ambassador for Acorns this season.  It’s a really important role and one that I’m honoured to have been asked to fulfil.

“I will do my best to raise awareness of the great work the charity does, both at the hospice and out in the community.

“Next year is Acorns for the Three Counties’ 10th anniversary year, and we are committed to making it the best year ever. We have lots planned and we are again looking forward to our annual charity match in the New Year.”

The back-row has already met children, families and staff at Acorns on several occasions and intends to become a regular visitor to the hospice to join in a variety of activities alongside his teammates.

Corporate Fundraising Officer at Acorns Laura Richards, said: “We are thrilled that Sam will be supporting us in the role as the official Player Ambassador for the charity.

“He has already demonstrated great enthusiasm and a real understanding of our work and we would like to say a huge thank you for his generous support to date and very much look forward to working with him.”
