Warriors practise climbing to the top

The Warriors players have been looking to reach the heights of something other than the league table this week, as they experienced the challenges of Vertical Limit Indoor Rock Climbing.

After a run of 24 straight wins which sees them top the Greene King IPA Championship and having secured a place in the B&I Cup final last weekend, the squad had an afternoon traversing, bouldering and climbing their way around and up the testing walls of the complex at Shrub Hill, Worcester.

And according to Warriors Head of Strength & Conditioning Chris Hart, the occasion was an opportunity for the players to experience something a bit different to their usual Monday afternoon training.

He said: “Coming off the back of Friday night and reaching another final, we’re in a good place and we wanted to keep that going forward by having a bit of fun but still being able to take something from the occasion.

“It was a great opportunity for us to have a lighter start to the week, to get the group together and to get a bit of a training stimulus.

“Hopefully the players will have got something out of it in terms of learning how to use their body in a different way.

“Obviously they are big, strong lads but it’s different how they apply that strength in climbing.”

Warriors scrum-half Jonny Arr insisted it was a tough but enjoyable afternoon for the players.

He explained: “It’s actually very tricky. It’s a workout on the arms and everyone tested themselves to see how high they could get.

“It keeps the training week different and keeps the boys both fresh in mind and body to get away from our usual environment so it’s nice to have a bit of fun while also working hard.”

England international Chris Pennell said: “It certainly aches in your forearms after a while.

“It’s good to get together as a group away from the club and having a bit of fun.”
