Ryan excited by end-of-season run-in

Dean Ryan admits he is excited by the end-of-season run-in as Warriors prepare for the Greene King IPA Championship play-offs.

Warriors face Yorkshire Carnegie at Sixways this Saturday and travel to Cornish Pirates next weekend before the regular season finishes against Bristol later this month.

And, according to the Warriors Director of Rugby, the calibre of opposition will be perfect preparation for the knock-out stages.

He said: “We’ve got quite a tough run-in, which is what we wanted. The tough sides in the Championship are coming here over the next few weeks so I think we’ll be in pretty good shape when the play-offs come.

“We’ve proven that we can play at a higher standard in those positions and we’ve got to look to maintain it and keep building it so we can get better.”

Warriors were forced to overcome a 14-0 deficit the last time they met Yorkshire Carnegie as they eventually ran out as 36-17 winners in December last year.

Since then, Yorkshire have appointed Bryan Redpath as Head Coach and recently announced that rugby league legend Kevin Sinfield would be switching codes to join the club next season.

Ryan continued: “There’s got to be talk about the future when they’re getting people of the calibre of Bryan there.

“And making the announcement of Kevin out of the blue is also interesting. It’s a challenge to come to this game from league but he’s one of the best league players around so I will be interested to see his pathway.”

Warriors have continued to improve their squad ahead of the 2015/16 campaign with the major signing of talented back Bryce Heem, who will move to Sixways from Waikato Chiefs in the summer.

And Ryan added: “I think it’s an outstanding statement of where the club has come that a player of that calibre understands what we’re doing and chooses to come here.”
