Warriors Academy Round-Up

The past week has been a busy one regarding a number of Warriors’ young stars for the future.

Nine Under 16s played last week for the Midlands as they battled Italy Under 17s, Welsh Celtics Under 16s and France West Under 16s.

Warriors forwards Freddie Hemingway, Beck Cutting, Oliver Richardson, James Scott, Lawrence Weston and Ted Hill all played for the region along with backs Dion King, George Hawks and Isaac Blake-Mills.

One other Warrior in full-back Nick David, represented The North Under 16s who took on Scotland Under 16s, Welsh Celtics Under 16s and France West Under 16s.

Four of those 10 players – Beck Cutting, Nick David, Ted Hill and James Scott – have been selected to play for England Under 16s against Wales this Sunday.

Cutting and David will start for the side at hooker and full-back respectively while Hill and Scott are named among the replacements.

Warriors wishes the boys all the best when they represent their country this weekend.

Academy Assistant Manager Chim Gale said: “All of the boys performed very well playing for their regions. Their recognition at regional and international level is evidence of their hard work and hopefully they can keep it up.

“The Warriors Academy would like to thank all the constituency bodies, schools and clubs involved for their continued hard work and efforts.”

Meanwhile, England Under 19s, which included Warriors youngsters Huw Taylor, Jack Singleton and Jamie Shillcock, lost 33-14 to France last Saturday in Bourg-en-Bresse.

Replacement Shillcock however did come off the bench to score a try for the visitors across the Channel.

England Under 17s also suffered a narrow defeat to France 28-26, where Warriors youngsters Joe Morris, Zac Xiourouppa, Josh Nott and Will Butler were in action.

Xiorouppa skippered the side while centre Butler bagged a brace of tries but the French youngsters pinched the win.
