Academy players line-up for England Under 16s

Four Warriors Academy players will line-up for the England Under 16s when they face Wales on Sunday at the Centre for Sporting Excellence, Caerphilly (2.30pm kick-off).

Bromsgrove School pupil Beck Cutting will start at hooker for his country, while Nick David, who attends Warwick School, will start at full-back.

Warriors are also represented on the replacements bench as James Scott from the Bishop of Hereford’s Bluecoat School is handed the number 19 jersey, while Ted Hill, who attends the River School, wears number 20.

The four players each train at one of Warriors’ Junior Academy Centres, which were all launched earlier this season, and have progressed rapidly under the tutelage of the Club’s coaches.

Warriors Assistant Academy Manager Chim Gale said: “We are delighted to see these four players selected to play for their country and it really does illustrate the potential they all possess.

“This season we have worked extensively with each of these players through the programmes we run at our Junior Academy Centres across the region as we continue to plan their long-term development.

“These centres will help Warriors develop their own first-team players in years to come and these England call-ups really do show that Dean Ryan’s and Nick Johnston’s vision is slowly coming to fruition.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s fixture, England Under 16 Head Coach Stephen Shortland said: “It will be very, very tough. Wales are a passionate, committed side and very physical as evident by the two teams they put into the festival.

“We’ve got to meet the challenge. Playing away from home in Wales increases that challenge but we’re just looking to be accurate in everything we do and play with intent to match the passion they bring.

“Those players that have been selected to wear that England shirt have a great opportunity.”
