World Cup winner Williams aiming to excite Sixways faithful

Ali Williams believes fans can expect a different kind of game this weekend as the Barbarians come to Sixways.

The 77-times capped All Black is part of an experienced Baa-Baas side, which also features fellow New Zealanders Carl Hayman and Adam Thomson.

He said: “Exhibition games have a lot of value in rugby circles. The way some teams play can be frustrating to watch but this game is an opportunity for spectators to come and enjoy the sport and see players they’ve seen on TV.

“We have the freedom to play our style and chuck the ball around, but it all depends on the lungs because you have to keep running too!”

The Barbarians were 27-24 winners against Samoa last weekend at London’s Olympic Stadium in Williams’ first game for the invitation club.

The World Cup-winning lock will captain the Barbarians this weekend and says it’s a real privilege to represent the world-famous club.

He added: “It’s always an honour to play for the Barbarians. You want to do the jersey proud when you put it on and respect it. That’s what makes rugby such a beautiful game.

“It’s quite hard to define my proudest achievement but this has certainly added to the collection of memorable moments from my career.”

It is also the first time Williams has played at Sixways and he admits he is looking forward to the challenge.

He continued: “The set-up looks pretty amazing here to be honest. I can’t wait for the game. It will be a match that both sides will want to get something out of.

“Warriors have been together for a long time, working through plays so they’ve got the advantage but we can just play what we see and have some fun.”

Tickets for the game will be available from the Box Office on the day, while you can also book by calling 01905 459309 or clicking here
