Short ready and raring to go

Warriors back Andy Short admits he’s ready and raring to make his second Warriors debut, after re-joining the Club last summer.

The winger played several minutes of a friendly back in September but picked up an injury in the first few minutes of the game which has kept him sidelined for the last four months.

But the 24-year-old can’t wait to step back out on the Sixways turf this Saturday as Warriors take on Zebre Rugby in the European Challenge Cup (kick-off 3pm).

He said: “It’s been a tough few months especially after the longest pre-season ever because of the World Cup.

“But I’m back fit and now is the chance to put the shirt back on and impress.”

Short bagged nine tries in 30 appearances during his first spell at Sixways between 2010 and 2013 before moving to Bristol Rugby.

But after returning to his hometown club, he is looking to earn his stripes and break back into the first-team.

He explained: “From a personal perspective I can’t wait for my first proper game back in a Worcester shirt.

“It’s about getting back to full fitness and pushing for a place in the first-team.

“It’ll be a great occasion for me. All the family will be coming down to watch so hopefully I can turn in a performance and get us back to winning ways.”

Warriors were beaten 27-8 by Zebre back in November in extremely wet and slippery conditions.

And Short is hoping it won’t be as torrid this time round so he and his teammates can enjoy some running rugby.

He added: “Hopefully the rain holds off this weekend. The groundsmen are doing a fantastic job on the pitch trying to keep it fresh for a running game of rugby which is what we want to do and what fans want to see.

“We’ve been training in harsh conditions on both the natural and artificial surfaces recently. The 4G is a lot nicer but we’ve shown some great skills in training and we’ll be looking to take that onto the main pitch on matchday.

“We’ll be going out there to build some momentum in this European block and moving forward into the Premiership.”
