Vuna pays tribute to ‘next level’ teammates

Warriors wing Cooper Vuna insists his back-three counterparts Bryce Heem and Chris Pennell are “another level” and should be playing international rugby.

The trio form an exciting partnership at Sixways and have received praise from many pundits over recent weeks for their displays, and Vuna believes they are among some of the best he’s ever played alongside.

He said: “Bryce and Pens are up there with the best in the league. With the combinations I’ve been involved with in the past, those two are definitely up there at the top.

“They are another level and if it wasn’t for the people in front of them, they’d be in the Test squads. Pennell has to be considered in the England mix and Bryce could definitely be an All Black.”

Warriors fell 30-15 to Exeter Chiefs last weekend despite being in the contest till late on.

And although admitting his frustration, Vuna knows his team are more than capable of beating the Aviva Premiership’s top sides.

He explained: “It was tough to take and the result wasn’t necessarily a fair reflection. They weren’t 15 points better than us and they’re a top-of-the-table side. We should’ve beaten them.

“It’s frustrating when we get these good starts and don’t close them out but it’s one of those you have to learn from.

“We have to move on quickly and pounce on the next block of games and hopefully we’ll get our reward. These are the games we have to win. A win is coming and we know it.”

With the trip to London Irish this Sunday, the winners will relieve some pressure at the bottom of the table and Vuna knows it’s a big opportunity to pick up a third win of the campaign.

He stated: “It’s a big chance to pick up wins and also over the next few weeks. We know we’re better than some of the other teams and we’ve certainly proved it in some games but haven’t necessarily got the result. We just have to finish teams off after getting a good start.”
