Warriors AASE march on with win over Cardiff

Warriors AASE side Worcester Sixth Form College carried on their fine form with a 26-12 win over Cardiff’s Coleg y Cymoedd last Wednesday at Nunnery Wood Sports Complex.

The Welsh college are the current Welsh Colleges Elite league champions, and are a big feeder for the Cardiff Blues Academy, but were swept aside by Worcester who continue their fine form this season.

In a very physical encounter, but both teams went out with real intent to play width on the ball.

But it was Worcester who led 7-0 at the break following a brilliant quick-tap penalty by Jamie Keen to get beyond the Cardiff defence, before Ben Davies-Moore ran a great line to go in under the posts and Sam Hollingsworth converted.

The second-half started brightly with Worcester’s linespeed forcing a handling error from the Welsh, allowing Sam Faulkner to pinch the ball and offload to Stan Mayne who in turn found George Newman to score.

Hollingsworth kicked another conversion to give the hosts a 14-0 lead.

But Cardiff hit back with two quick tries down the left wing which were well finished following some superb handling.

However, Warriors finished the stronger, with current England Under 17 star Ted Hill stampeding over two defenders to score in the corner with replacement fly-half Joe Weaver converting brilliantly.

And Worcester rounded-off proceedings after sustained pressure on the Coleg y Cymoedd line, as a rushed kick fell into the hands of Dan Batty who teed-up Newman to score his second.

The two sides will meet again in Cardiff on Wednesday 2 March.
